Summer Science Camps
Science is an adventure—an amazing opportunity to explore the world around us.
Children naturally love to explore our world, and Summer Science Camps at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center are the perfect way to encourage your child’s curiosity and intellectual growth in a fun, nurturing environment.
2023 Summer Science Camps
2023 Summer Science Camps will take place June 12 – August 11. There will be 8 weeks of camps with a break for the July 4 week and the Juneteenth holiday. All camps will take place onsite at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center (250 E Franklin St | Chapel Hill, NC) or surrounding buildings on The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.
- January 17 – Concierge registration for Solar level (and higher) members
- January 23 – Early registration opens for Morehead members at 12:00 pm (Family level and higher)
- January 27 – Early registration opens for UNC staff/faculty* at 12:00 pm
- January 30 – Public registration opens at 12:00 pm
- Early June – Camp Open House & Orientation (meet counselors, see classrooms, and help your child become familiar with camp location)

Morehead Summer Science Camps use an online registration system, which offers real-time updates on camp availability.
- Your child can participate only in those camps designed for the grade level they will enter in fall 2023. NO EXCEPTIONS. This ensures the best possible academic and social environment for all campers.
- Your child can participate in a named camp only once during the summer. For example, a camper cannot register for “LEGO Robotics” more than once.

Registration Confirmation
Look for a confirmation email after you complete registration. If you don’t receive this email within 30 minutes, please check your spam filter.
Waiting Lists
If the camp you have chosen is already full, please consider joining the waiting list. You will be notified if a space becomes available.
Discounts
- Family level and higher Morehead members are eligible for early registration. Members that are Family Plus and higher are eligible for a 10% discount on each camp. Become a member today!
- Current employees of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are eligible for a 7% discount on all camps.
*Please Note: Only one camp discount code can be used at check out.

Summer Science Camp Counselor
Camp Counselors spend the summer facilitating exciting, hands-on science activities with kids grades K-8. Don’t worry if you don’t have a science background – we’ll teach you! We provide curricula, materials, and training. If you are passionate about science, education, or working with children, consider applying!

If you’re a high school student interested in being a teen volunteer, fill out the application below. You can email it to mpsc_camps@unc.edu or mail it to the address listed in the application. If you will be 18 years old before May 1, 2023, you may apply to be a Camp Counselor in the Employment tab above.
