Current Openings

Science Education Specialist

The Science Education Specialist will coordinate, lead, and support onsite and offsite programs for visitors at the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center and communities across the state of North Carolina. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, curriculum development, program facilitation, and program assessment for Morehead programs. Additionally, this position will be responsible for recruiting, training, and evaluating student staff who are hired to deliver specific Morehead programs. This position will coordinate Morehead’s on-site summer camp program which includes curriculum design, hiring and training camp staff, and managing the camp registration system.

Community Engagement Intern 

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center seeks an energetic, motivated individual to play a vital role on the Community Engagement Team. This 11-month position provides an educator with a unique opportunity to gain considerable experience in science program execution and coordination. The Community Engagement intern will support the North Carolina Science Festival, FUTURES storytelling workshops, NC STEM Calendar, and special community events. 

Responsibilities will include administrative support for core initiatives, designing curriculum, leading hands-on STEM activities, and assisting with the delivery of programs including workshops and community meetings. 

This position is an 11-month internship, with occasional evening and weekend work.

Summer Outreach Educator

Morehead is looking for Summer Outreach Educators to lead daily science sessions for 20 children in kindergarten – 5th grade at community-based youth development centers in Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Orange, Vance, and Wake counties.

This two-month opportunity provides an opportunity to gain experience in STEM education. Training in curriculum and instruction will be provided.

Sales Associate 

Our summer 2024 Sales Associate positions are now filled, but we are still considering applications for Sales Associate for the 2024-25 school year.

Sales Associates work in our box office and museum store, selling tickets and merchandise. No prior experience required. Weekend work required, some evening work required.

Guest Relations Assistant 

Guest Relations Assistants work with visiting field trips from schools and reservations for other non-school organizations. They provide customer service and wayfinding for group programs, general public operations, birthday party programs, private planetarium shows, and other special events. No prior experience required. We are currently hiring for Summer 2024. Staff hired for summer 2024 will have the option to continue work in Fall 2024 if availability permits. Some evening work required, some weekend work required.

STEM Educator 

STEM Educators work on our exhibits floor and Launch Lab tinkerspace interacting with guests at the science center. We also have live science shows in our Science Stage where STEM Educators present exciting science demonstrations like flame tests, liquid nitrogen demos, and more! We are open Tuesday-Sunday and are flexible around classes, summer plans, etc. This job has the opportunity to continue in the fall and opportunity for advancement.

$11.05/hour starting rate
