The UNC-owned Morehead parking lot is under construction. Weekday visitors must pay using ParkMobile (Zone Code 4468) or the Pay Station near our iguana. For more info, go to our Plan A Visit page.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center Directors

Roy K. Marshall
1949 – 1951
Called “the best planetarium man in America,” Marshall left his position as director of Philadelphia’s Fels Planetarium to lead Morehead.

Anthony Jenzano
1952 – 1981
The second employee of Morehead and its first head technician in charge of the star theater, he became the longest serving director at Morehead to date. Jenzano assembled the planetarium’s first Zeiss projector by hand and secured the planetarium’s position as a center for astronaut training.

Lee Shapiro
1982 – 2001
Shapiro guided the planetarium through its 50th anniversary celebrations and oversaw certain critical upgrades and renovations to the planetarium’s facilities.

Holden Thorp
2001 – 2005
Thorp guided Morehead towards becoming a comprehensive science center for all North Carolinians.

Todd Boyette
2006 – present
Boyette assumed the directorship in July 2006, bringing a strong background in science education and museum management to Morehead. Under Boyette, Morehead has expanded and deepened the impact of outreach programs across the state.
