Join us for a conversation with Dr. Tammara Watts! Dr. Watts will explore how a surgeon can approach two patients with similar cancers, perform the same surgery, yet the patients have two different outcomes with respect to the biology of their cancer. She’ll discuss how doctors come to understand how noncancerous cells, like stem cells and fibroblasts, promote cancer development, and how they design drugs to disrupt the cross talk between these cells to improve outcomes for patients with oral cancer.
About the speaker: Dr. Tammara Watts is a surgeon scientist at Duke. She splits her time between seeing patients and working in her laboratory to better understand the biology of oral cancers. When she is not at work you can find her riding horses, talking to her friends (visiting once Covid is behind us), and cooking and entertaining in her home.
