CHAPEL HILL, NC (September 26, 2024) — This summer, two new members were appointed to Morehead Planetarium and Science Center’s Advisory Board.

Denise Clayton, Ph.D., a health economist who leads new product development at SSR Health, and Frank Proctor, managing partner at F3P Research, began their first three-year term of service on July 1, 2024.

“Since establishing the Advisory Board, we’ve had a mission of strengthening Morehead’s connection to North Carolina and creating opportunities for all to engage with STEM education,” said Todd Boyette, Ph.D., director of Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. “I am pleased to have Denise and Frank aboard and look forward to working with them to advance our mission.”

Clayton has extensive experience with helping life science organizations, governments, payers, and providers navigate evolving payment and policy landscapes. Her work has been widely published on topics such as health equity, value-based care, artificial intelligence, and electronic prior authorization, and her peer-reviewed research has appeared in the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of Health Economics and Outcomes Research, and the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association. Clayton received a doctorate in economics from the University of California San Diego, as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and applied mathematics from North Carolina State University.

“I am excited to help Morehead advance its ‘Science for All’ mission and encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to dream big,” Clayton said.

Proctor is the founder of F3P research, which focuses on investments in the energy sector, and he is the director of Lee-Moore Capital Company. He has served as general manager of Newsweek magazine’s Asian edition and established Muse, a bilingual publishing company that evolved into a digital media enterprise. Proctor received his bachelor’s degree in history from UNC-Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in international relations from Cambridge University, and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

About the Morehead, Proctor said, “We are so lucky to have this window onto the heavens right here in Chapel Hill. But Morehead is about much more than just star shows. It is a wonderful stage presenting all the cutting-edge research going on at UNC.”

Established in 2007 to engage formally with institutional partners and constituents, the Morehead Advisory Board offers guidance to the director and leadership team on various matters, encompassing strategic direction, advocacy, and establishing essential connections. Leveraging their diverse backgrounds and experiences, the board plays a crucial role in shaping Morehead’s future by contributing to the institutional master plan and supporting fundraising efforts.
