GSK renews Science in the Summer™ partnership with Morehead Planetarium & Science Center with $1.5M grant
Morehead will not host annual New Year Family Celebration
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Due to ongoing renovations Morehead Planetarium & Science Center will not host the annual Night Lights event. The highly attended, sold-out event attracts more than 5,000 people from the Triangle and surrounding areas each year.
“This was a difficult decision to make,” says Susan Durham, Director of Operations at Morehead. “We want to offer guests an exceptional experience, but we know we could not do that with the ongoing renovation project.”

CHAPEL HILL, NC— The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Morehead Planetarium and Science Center for a new project that will help address equity in access to high quality science education resources in northeastern North Carolina. Morehead will collaborate with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) on the project.
CHAPEL HILL – Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is hosting a special Scare-olina Skies showing that will include live narration during the show and candy.

Morehead Planetarium & Science Center presents the Chapel Hill premiere of Farmsteaders, a documentary film directed by former adjunct instructor in visual communication, Shaena Mallett, and produced by associate professor in the School of Media and Journalism, Chad Stevens Heartwood.

Morehead Planetarium brings GSK Science in the SummerTM to students in Robeson County

This week, Morehead Planetarium & Science Center is partnering with GSK to provide a one-week, full-day summer enrichment camp at Pembroke Elementary School as a part of the GSK Science in the Summer™ program.
The summer learning opportunity for students comes on the heels of Robeson County’s recovery efforts after suffering the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Matthew.

CHAPEL HILL – On Saturday, Nov. 10, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will be celebrating International Science Center and Science Museum Day (ISCSMD), a yearly, global event illustrating the impact and reach of all the world’s science centers and science museums. This year, ISCSMD will be recognizing the importance of science as a human right and that everyone has the right to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.
CHAPEL HILL – Partnering with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is hosting Moonlight Madness, an evening of Halloween activities for kids of all ages on Saturday, October 27 from 4-8 p.m. There will be games, shows in the GSK Fulldome Theater, Science LIVE! performances, a costume fashion show, haunted house, candy, food trucks, and photo booth fun.
