Morehead Planetarium & Science Center presents the Chapel Hill premiere of Farmsteaders, a documentary film directed by former adjunct instructor in visual communication, Shaena Mallett, and produced by associate professor in the School of Media and Journalism, Chad Stevens Heartwood.
Clear-eyed and intimate, Farmsteaders follows Nick Nolan and his young family on a journey to resurrect his late grandfather’s dairy farm as agriculture moves toward large-scale farming. In a study of both place and persistence, Farmsteaders points an honest and tender lens at everyday life in rural America, offering an unexpected voice for a forsaken people: those who grow the food that sustains us.
A free screening of the film will be held on September 12, 7–9 p.m. in the GSK Fulldome Theater at Morehead.
This is a non-ticketed event, and is a part of Morehead’s American South fulldome documentary series in partnership with UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
This event is in collaboration with filmmakers Chad Stevens, Shaena Mallett, and editor, Kelly Creedon.
