Morehead presents Doc in Dome series: ‘Farmsteaders’
August 16, 2019
Thursday, September 12, 7-9 p.m.
GSK Fulldome Theater, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center
Morehead Planetarium & Science Center presents the Chapel Hill premiere of Farmsteaders, a documentary film directed by former adjunct instructor in visual communication, Shaena Mallett, and produced by associate professor in the School of Media and Journalism, Chad Stevens Heartwood.
Clear-eyed and intimate, Farmsteaders follows Nick Nolan and his young family on a journey to resurrect his late grandfather’s dairy farm as agriculture moves toward large-scale farming. In a study of both place and persistence, Farmsteaders points an honest and tender lens at everyday life in rural America, offering an unexpected voice for a forsaken people: those who grow the food that sustains us.
A free screening of the film will be held on September 12, 7–9 p.m. in the GSK Fulldome Theater at Morehead.
This is a non-ticketed event, and is a part of Morehead’s American South fulldome documentary series in partnership with UNC School of Media & Journalism.
This event is in collaboration with filmmakers Chad Stevens, Shaena Mallett, and editor, Kelly Creedon.
