Join us for this Teen Science Cafe with Jeromy Rech; we will discuss creating new types of plastics including those that can conduct electricity and be used in solar panels. We will also have a virtual lab tour to see where some of this chemistry is done. Finally, we’ll look at some applications of these plastics including flexible solar panels, foldable smart phones, solar powered greenhouses, and more!
About the Speaker: Jeromy is currently a fifth-year chemistry graduate student in Wei You’s lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a polymer chemist, he designs new types of plastics which are used to make semi-transparent and flexible solar panels. Outside of the lab, Jeromy is also a chemistry professor at Durham Technical Community College and a robotics referee for FIRST Robotics.
