Have you ever wondered how common conjunctions like the “great conjunction” on December 21, 2020 happen? How often is there a full moon on Halloween? Using clues in the book “The Martian” and what we know about launch opportunities to Mars, when would Mark Whatney’s mission take place?

We’ll chat with Tony Rice for this Teen Science Cafe; in writing for WRAL on astronomy topics, he frequently creates python scripts to answer very specific astronomy questions (like the ones above). Tony will walk us through some of the code, and then we will live code, test, and get an answer to an astronomy question.
