Planned Giving
Plan ahead so that your generosity will have an impact for generations to come.
The gift that keeps on giving.
By making a planned gift, you can make a lasting impact on Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, and on science education in North Carolina for years to come. At the same time, you may also realize financial and tax benefits for you and your family.
Some people think that planned giving is just for people of a certain age or the extremely wealthy. However, through careful planning, many people can use planned giving to make a significant gift to an organization, while still achieving all of their long-term financial goals.
Types of Planned Giving
These gifts are revocable planned gifts. They allow you to keep your assets until death. In most cases, these are also the simplest types of planned gifts to create. They can be created through 1) a bequest in a new will or a codicil to an existing will or 2) through the beneficiary designation of a life insurance policy or your retirement plan account.
We encourage you to tell us if you have included us as a beneficiary in your planning so that we can properly thank you, plan for the future and ensure that your wishes are carried out in the manner you had intended.
These are life income gifts that provide you and/or another beneficiary with income for life. After the beneficiary dies, Morehead uses the gift in the manner you designate. The gifts are irrevocable.
These can provide Morehead with a current stream of income for the number of years you specify. At the end of that period, the trust assets are transferred to family members you select. These types of gifts are advantageous to you because you are able to remove assets from your estate and pass them onto heirs in a tax-advantaged way. Depending on the type of lead trust, you may receive an income tax charitable deduction on the amount coming to Morehead.
