Understanding the Role of Water on Public Health, Development, and Conflict

Join us on Nov 19 as Andy Al Wazni gives an overview of how climate change impacts global populations in relation to public health and social justice, with an emphasis on the role of water. Climate change impacts the entire world, but not equally. This talk will highlight how climate disasters harm vulnerable populations the most, causing forced displacement, conflict, and spread of disease when access to water is compromised.

Speaker Bio: Anderson (Andy) Al Wazni, MSW, is a third year PhD of Social Work student at UNC Chapel Hill, as well as adjunct faculty at Smith College, AHEC instructor, and Social Work Health Futures Fellow. Andy’s research focuses on the intersection of climate change, forced displacement, and conflict as it pertains to both global and domestic populations. She is particularly focused on using research as a method for social justice and policy advocacy in relation to water security, public health, and validating the identity of populations forcibly displaced by climate change.
