The heart is a complex organ powered by electricity to move blood throughout an entire organism. In this Teen Science Cafe, we will explore the cells responsible for electrical activity in the heart, cardiac pacemaking cells, and what characteristics these cells need to function.

About the speaker: Kandace Thomas is a 5th year Genetic and Molecular Biology PhD student, at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In addition to her studies, Kandace is a published author and entrepreneur; she aspires to be an undergraduate Biology professor after she graduates in Fall 2021.
