CHAPEL HILL – On Saturday, Nov. 10, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will be celebrating International Science Center and Science Museum Day (ISCSMD), a yearly, global event illustrating the impact and reach of all the world’s science centers and science museums. This year, ISCSMD will be recognizing the importance of science as a human right and that everyone has the right to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.
CHAPEL HILL – Partnering with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is hosting Moonlight Madness, an evening of Halloween activities for kids of all ages on Saturday, October 27 from 4-8 p.m. There will be games, shows in the GSK Fulldome Theater, Science LIVE! performances, a costume fashion show, haunted house, candy, food trucks, and photo booth fun.
GATES COUNTY, N.C. – Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will introduce the Saunders Science Scholars program in Gates County Schools, thanks to funding by their advisory board member, Steve Butts.
NORTH CAROLINA —Morehead Planetarium & Science Center is once again partnering with GSK to present GSK Science in the Summer™, a free program aimed at providing high-quality science education to underrepresented and underserved populations during the summer. Science in the Summer works to prevent what is known as the ‘summer slide,’ when students forget what they learned from the school year in the summer.
CHAPEL HILL – On Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 7 PM, Michael G. Neece will provide insider knowledge about NASA astronauts training at Morehead Planetarium & Science Center during the 1960s and 70s. Neece will share some of his research from his upcoming books and documentary film about Morehead, focusing on the director of the planetarium at that time, Tony Jenzano. This event is hosted by the Chapel Hill Astronomical & Observational Society (CHAOS) at Morehead’s Science Stage.
CHAPEL HILL – Since 2005, the North Carolina LEGO Users Group has put on LEGO-palooza at Morehead Planetarium & Science center. Intricate LEGO exhibits are displayed throughout the building for a weekend -- scenes of outer space, trains, amusement parks, city landmarks and more! There is something for everyone to enjoy. LEGO-palooza will also have LEGO activities so kids can come up with their own creation. The hours are:
CHAPEL HILL – This January, Morehead and the Carrboro Yoga Company present: Yoga Under the Stars. Start the New Year mindfully in Morehead’s GlaxoSmithKline Full Dome Theater, beneath an array of stars. There will be four yoga sessions, each with a different feel to create a unique, immersive environment.

CHAPEL HILL – Partnering with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is hosting Night Lights, a day of New Year’s Eve activities for kids of all ages on Sunday, December 31st from 2pm-6pm. There will be games, shows in the GSK Fulldome Theater, Science LIVE! performances, and photo booth fun. The day ends with a New Year’s countdown. Tickets are SOLD OUT for our individual shows, but all other activities are free and open to the public! Feel free to stop by for the games, Science LIVE!
CHAPEL HILL – On Friday, November 17 from 7PM-midnight, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will host our annual philanthropic black-tie event, the Jupiter Ball. Join us for an evening of fine food, stargazing, dancing, and honored guests for a good cause. All proceeds benefit the Jupiter Ball Fund, which grants scholarships to eligible schools around North Carolina to visit Morehead.
