Morehead Planetarium and Science Center offers exciting special activities throughout the year. These range from guest speakers addressing innovations in science to LEGO-palooza to special editions of our popular Carolina Skies planetarium show. There is something for everyone!

Students in a Discovery Class.

Discovery Classes are hands-on, minds-on learning experiences designed specifically for school groups visiting Morehead. These interactive classes add an exciting dimension to any school visit.

Hidden No More: STEM Women of Color Tour

Historically, women of color have faced considerable challenges pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. "Hidden No More: STEM Women of Color" tour lets you hear from five women who, despite these challenges, have made significant contributions to their fields and are pushing society forward.

Since 2005, the North Carolina LEGO Users Group has put on LEGO-palooza at Morehead Planetarium & Science center. Intricate LEGO exhibits are displayed throughout the building for a weekend -- scenes of outer space, trains, amusement parks, city landmarks and more! There is something for everyone to enjoy. LEGO-palooza will also have LEGO activities so kids can come up with their own creation, food trucks, activities, and more.

Tickets and schedule times are required to LEGO-palooza for 2019.

Carolina Skies: Special Editions in the planetarium.

Throughout the year Morehead offers special editions of the popular Carolina Skies planetarium program. These are "live" star shows led by a Morehead educator. Come learn about celestial objects, myths and legends or current astronomical events of interest.

STEMville Science Symposium is a wonderful opportunity for children to explore different types of STEM careers!

STEMville Science Symposium is a half-day science conference for children in grades four through seven. They meet and talk with scientists and researchers, participate in workshops and conduct experiments - constructing solar cells, extracting DNA from strawberries, building catapults and more.

Morehead hosts a yearly event in partnership with Professor Brian Sturm's storytelling class from the UNC's School of Information and Library Science. We'll be bringing this event back in November, stay tuned for story announcements. Tickets will be $3 each + tax. If you're buying more than 2 tickets, use the discount code, STORIES, for a $1 off all additional tickets purchased.
