Two skywatching sessions in September

We've had to cancel some of our summer skywatching sessions because of stormy weather ... so we're making it up to you with TWO skywatching sessions in September!

On Saturday, Sept. 7, join us at Jordan Lake State Park, 8-10 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 27, join us at Little River Regional Park, 8-10 p.m.

Both sessions are free, of course -- and weather permitting! Check Morehead's skywatching page for directions and more information.

Star Families: Greek Myths and Legends

The ancient Greeks used legends to describe the constellations they saw. Now you can experience those constellations just as the ancient Greeks did!

Free movie just for teens on Aug. 2

It isn't uncommon to hear someone say, "The movie looks good, but I want to read the book before I see it." Sometimes, however, the science can be just as riveting.

Local teens can enjoy both the movie and the science during a free screening of "Jurassic Park," Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster, on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. During the movie's intermission, paleontologists will explain some of the science behind the movie.

The North Carolina Science Festival is bringing Alton Brown, host of the Food Network’s "Good Eats," to North Carolina for two performances (Durham and Charlotte) in April.

Tickets are going fast! Teen Science Cafe on Friday, April 19

Our guest speaker is Dr. Apurva Dave, an oceanographer with the Nicholas School for the Environment at Duke University. Like Morehead's Carolina Science Cafe for adults, the Open Minds Cafe is an opportunity to meet a scientist and learn about current, real-world research -- and it's just for teens.
