Teen & Adult Programs

Morehead offers many programs for teens and adults. Learn about current science research at the Carolina Science Cafe, explore celestial objects at Starry Nights or observe the stars during a Skywatching session. Expand your universe with experiences that match your curiosity and schedule.

Join us on the first Wednesday of every month for Carolina Science Cafe, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center's free, current science awareness program. Designed for adults, this program explores the science topics making national and international headlines and offers the chance to meet the experts behind the headlines.

Groups have been visiting Morehead Planetarium and Science Center for more than 60 years. Morehead knows how to bring science to life, with exciting and inspiring planetarium showsScience Stage show and Discovery Classes.

Morehead hosts free skywatching sessions every month (weather permitting). Morehead educators and CHAOS members (from Chapel Hill Astronomical & Observational Society) bring telescopes and guide you through fun observations of stars, planets, moons, nebulae and other celestial objects. You might even see a few meteors!

A Morehead educator leads a planetarium show.

Explore the night sky under the planetarium dome! During the Starry Nights program for adults and older teens, you'll learn how to identify the planets, bright stars and constellations that are easiest to find during the current season, with expert guidance from a Morehead astronomy educator. You'll hear stories and legends from various cultures about the visible star patterns. You'll also receive a season-specific update on eclipses, meteor showers and other astronomical phenomena.

Calling all teens - let's explore current science!

Want to talk with scientists about their work? Meet other teens who like science as much as you do? Share your ideas and learn what others think, too?

Open Minds: Teen Science Café is for you! This program is just for young adults, ages 13-18, and it's free! No registration is required. Please enter the building through the Visitors Center (west end of the building) to find the cafe location.
