GSK (@GSKUS) and Morehead Planetarium and Science Center have announced that GSK's Science in the Summer™ -- a free, fun, educational program for children entering Grades 2-8 -- will return for its seventh year to select libraries and community sites in nine North Carolina counties.
If you register now, you can be a part of the first-ever STEMville Science Symposium -- a unique new program for students in grades 4-7 who are interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math).

The NASA/JPL (Jet Propulsion Lab) Solar System Ambassador Program has selected Nick Eakes, one of Morehead’s educators, to be an ambassador for the state of North Carolina this year. The program is a public outreach program designed to work with motivated volunteers across the nation.
“It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Eakes. “Being an ambassador lets me share something I’m excited about and get the public excited about it too.”

We regret to announce that both showings of "Carolina Skies: Valentine Edition" are cancelled and will not be rescheduled. UNC is closed due to road conditions following severe weather, and as a UNC department, Morehead is also closed.
Explore the legends of love told by ancient cultures about the constellations and other sky objects. On Feb. 14, Morehead will have two live star shows at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. These shows are appropriate for adults and older teens. Regular prices apply.
Dr. Rebecca Fry from UNC-Chapel Hill is the speaker for February's cafe. She researches toxic metals in our environment and the effects they could have on vulnerable populations like pregnant women and small children.
Dr. Fry is an Associate Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. Please join us on Wednesday, Feb. 6 p.m., at Back Bar in downtown Chapel Hill as she talks about her research.
If you missed out on the first Cub Scout workshop, you'll be glad to know that Morehead has added another date for this workshop! Registration is now open for Feb. 28.
For Boy Scouts, Morehead offers its astronomy badge workshop on Jan. 24, and you can still register. Boy Scouts will work toward the merit badge requirements as they model Earth, our Moon and our Sun; identify constellations in a simulated night sky; and use telescopes and binoculars to discover the real night sky. Prior registration is required.
