The 2014 UNC Science Expo takes place on Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on UNC’s campus along Cameron Avenue. This free event is UNC’s single largest science outreach event, attracting approximately 10,000 participants. It is a festive atmosphere that celebrates science and provides a firsthand opportunity to see UNC science at work and interact with researchers.
The UNC Science Expo is part of the North Carolina Science Festival, a two-week-long compilation of public science events across the state. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center founded the Festival in 2010 and continues to administer it. The North Carolina Science Festival was the first statewide science festival in the world, and the UNC Science Expo has been part of the Festival since its first year.
What can you do at the Expo?
The UNC Science Expo is a perfect day outing for families! Join us for demonstrations, hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes tours of research labs, exhibits, stage presentations and science-related arts and crafts. Learn about 3-D printing, Google Glass, giant waves, virtual reality, robotics, DNA and fossils. Talk to university scientists and learn about current science research happening on UNC’s campus.
Check out the “Small Science” play area -- a safe, interactive space for children ages 2-8 to explore, play and build. Older children may take a turn riding a Segway or climbing a 24-foot "rock" wall.
