Morehead will host a two-day exhibit of "Granular Wall," a sound installation that demonstrates fluid dynamics. "Granular Wall" features a large, flat tank filled with water and neutrally-bouyant fluorescent microspheres, which reflect the complex fluid dynamics within the tank. The installation uses motion tracking and computer synthesis to interpret the fluid dynamics as music.
"Granular Wall" is created by composers Lee Weisert (assistant professor of music at UNC) and Jonathon Kirk (assistant professor of music at North Central College in Illinois). The composers previously collaborated on the installation "Cryoacoustic Orb."
This temporary exhibit will be open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. Admission to "Granular Wall" is free. You'll find the exhibit in Morehead's South Gallery, adjacent to the Rotunda.
