Morehead Scholarship Programs
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is committed to equity of access to its programs and has established scholarship programs to assist eligible schools with admission and other field trip costs.
The Jupiter Ball Scholarship Program
Jupiter Ball Scholarships are made possible by the generous support of Accenture; GlaxoSmithKline; UNC Health Care; DWM Advisors; Joan H. Gillings; Lenovo; AKOS & John Reynolds, M.D.; Claude & Sarah Snow; the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Advancement; Net App; Florence & Jim Peacock; Bruce Carney & Ruth Ann Humphry; Al & Marybeth Childers; Sandra Henson; John & Debra Ratliff and everyone who purchases tickets to The Jupiter Ball.
Scholarships covering the cost of admission and a transportation stipend ($150 for every 40 students) will be awarded to schools that are in the 76th percentile and above for free and reduced lunches.
Morehead uses data from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to make determinations regarding free and reduced lunches. Please see the following listings of Public Schools (excel) and Charter Schools (excel) to learn your school's percentage of free and reduced lunches (look at column titled "Needy %" in the spreadsheet) to see if your school is eligible for a scholarship.
Deadlines for 2015:
Nov. 15, 2014 to apply for a field trip in January, February or May 2015. Scholarship awards are made on a rolling basis so it is to your advantage to apply earlier.
Area-specific Scholarship Programs
In addition, several Morehead donors have established scholarships that benefit specific schools and school districts. Please refer to the list on the sidebar to see if your school is within any of these areas and eligible for an area-specific scholarship. Then follow the application instructions on the specific scholarship page.
