Astronomical Adventures

Blast off to adventure! Through hands-on activities and daily vsits to the planetarium dome, campers explore gravity, fusion and the life cycle of stars. They also work together to create a "space station" where they can further explore the mysteries of space.

Programming and engineering come to life with the aid of LEGO Mindstorms and PicoCrickets. Campers will build with LEGO bricks, engineer working robots with multiple sensors and design computer programs. Beware: Artificial intelligence may take over Morehead after this camp!

After locating a small, rocky planet in crisis, you have a critical mission: Collect data about the planet to determine the problem and find a solution. Use computer data and do hands-on experiments to explore the planet's various climate zones. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, will lead to a startling discovery.

Feel the power! Campers explore the mysteries of energy by discovering its many sources and usages. Model the effects of nonrenewable energy use and its impact on our environment. Capture the Sun's energy to distill water and cook food in homemade solar ovens before making windmills and powering cars using renewable energy. This camp is truly "electrifying!"

Humans know more about the surface of the Moon than about Earth's sea floor, so dive in with us and explore. Build a model submarine and travel to the deep to learn how creatures use camouflage in the deep ocean. Design a new fish species and make a map of your own sea floor creations. There's an ocean of mysteries waiting to be discovered!

Open your eyes to the wild things all around you! What are cephalopods, and how do they communicate? Can bees really dance? Explore the crazy animal kingdom. Do experiments to understand adaptations of native birds, make a termite pheromone trail and even build habitats for your own animal creations. Come on and get wild!
