The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale

"The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale" is a one-of-a-kind fulldome planetarium show that captures its audience with a timeless fable of courage, generosity and renewal. Its story explores the concept that winter is a time for Earth to rest, waiting for new growth in the spring.

Its star, a young girl born into a family of nomadic storytellers, embarks on a simple quest that leads her to a dragon's nest. What will she discover there, and how will it help her save her village?

Morehead collaborated with Paperhand Puppet Intervention to develop the story and visuals of "The Longest Night." The Morehead production team seamlessly wove together live-action video of Paperhand's world-class puppeteers with beautiful and intricate fulldome animation to create this innovative and imaginative show. Its cast and crew comprised dozens of puppeteers and production professionals, and The Paperhand Band created original music for the show.

"The Longest Night: A Winter's Tale" returns to Morehead on Nov. 2, 2013, and will remain on the schedule through Feb. 23, 2014. Show times are Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Age recommendation

Recommended for ages 7 and older. Younger children will enjoy much of "The Longest Night" but might become frightened during the lead character's journey through the woods and first encounter with the dragon.

School shows

In addition to its public shows, Morehead offers shows during the week especially for school classes and other field trip groups. These school shows do not appear on the seasonal schedule but do appear on Morehead's daily calendar.\

If seats are available, the public may purchase tickets to school shows.

However, school groups with reserved seating have first priority on any remaining seats (for example, if extra chaperons attend), so Morehead cannot guarantee that public seats will be available for school shows.
