PLANETS -- Professional Development
PLANETS Professional Development
for K-6 Teachers
PLANETS workshops offer a unique resource: North Carolina’s leading fulldome digital video portable planetarium. This is an exciting, inspiring educational environment for teachers and their students, too! Workshop activities are designed to help teachers increase and reinforce their potential and enthusiasm for teaching space science.
Workshop activities include unique NASA-themed teaching tools and demonstrate effective ways to link STEM content to other areas of the elementary school curriculum, especially language arts and social studies.
PLANETS curricula are aligned with the North Carolina Essential Standards. Please click here to see a complete list of PLANETS active curricula.
Professional development workshops are offered during each summer and feature selected curricula. These workshops are announced in the spring through the External Programs listserv and other channels. Please click here for the 2013 Teacher Workshop Flyer in a pdf format. The workshop application is available in both a .doc and .docx format. Click here for the .doc format. Click here for the .docx format. Complete the application, save it as a Word document and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee. The instructions for payment are included on the application form.
Each teacher who completes the PLANETS workshop receives a resource kit (filled with materials to conduct workshop module-related activities in the classroom) and receives 1.0 CEU credit upon completion. Lunch and snacks are included.
