Welcome to STEMville!

posted Monday March 26, 2012

Children and their families have a unique opportunity to learn more about STEM -- science, technology, engineering and mathematics -- during the free "Welcome to STEMville" program on Friday, April 27, 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Brentwood Boys & Girls Club (2025 New Hope Church Road, Raleigh) and is open to the public.

"Welcome to STEMville" is a series of family science programs led by outreach educators from Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. Each "Welcome to STEMville" program includes hands-on, tabletop activities; guest speakers on science education and STEM careers; and science enrichment resources for families.

According to Crystal Harden, Morehead's director of external programs, Friday's "Welcome to STEMville" also features special programming:

  • "Destination: Station" from NASA Johnson Space Center
  • Mobile science laboratories from North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • Activities from NCSU's Science House, NCSU's College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Morehead's DESTINY Traveling Science Learning Program

Friday's "Welcome to STEMville" is an official North Carolina Science Festival event.
