CHAOS hosts Astronomy Day on May 2

posted Sunday April 12, 2009

Members of CHAOS, the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society, are holding an Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 2, 4:30–9:30 p.m.

The activities are open to the public and will surround the sundial area at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Before sunset, visitors can learn about safe solar observation, experience a scale Solar System model and participate in information sessions:

  • how to start in astronomy
  • what is light pollution and how can it be controlled?
  • what to know when buying a telescope
There will be "astro crafts" for kids, too!

After dark, there will be an observing session with constellation tours. If weather permits, you can see Saturn, star clusters, binary stars and more. Bring your own binoculars or telescope, if you'd like, or share the telescopes that CHAOS members will bring.
