Morehead's WHISE initiative wins grantposted Friday October 10, 2008
Widening Horizons In Science Education (WHISE), a External Relations initiative at Morehead, has been awarded a $8,500 grant from the National Center for Research Resources, Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) program at the National Institutes of Health, reports grant coordinator Amber Vogel. The grant will fund two day-long seminars for teachers based around the topic "Darwin Across The Disciplines."
Both seminars will look at the influence of Charles Darwin, with a spring seminar focusing on the environment and a summer seminar focusing on the American South. The seminars will involve teachers from a wide range of disciplines, Vogel says: "We’ve had such good events with a mix of teachers — biology and English and social studies."
Grant funds will provide seminar materials, breakfast, lunch and travel stipends for participating teachers.
Information about the seminars will be available through the DESTINY listserv and other UNC sources.
