New astronaut to speak as part of Launch Weekend

Kids and their families are invited to meet astronaut Thomas Marshburn on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Marshburn's presentation, "Astronauts of the Future," will highlight how astronauts are selected and trained. The event is free to the public; seating is limited and is first-come, first-seated.

Marshburn is a Statesville, N.C., native with degrees from Davidson College and Wake Forest University. He completed astronaut training in February 2006.

North Carolina Space Grant is supporting Marshburn’s appearance, which is part of “Destination: Space” Launch Weekend activities. “Destination: Space” is Morehead’s newest planetarium show and focuses on the history and future of space exploration.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center delivers high-quality science education programming to more than 130,000 visitors each year. Morehead is located at 250 East Franklin Street on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.
