Summer Science Camps
Give Your Child the Gift of Science!
Science is an adventure -- an amazing opportunity to explore the world around us. Children naturally love to explore our world, and Morehead's Summer Science Camps are the perfect way to encourage your child's curiosity and intellectual growth in a fun, nurturing environment.
What's New for 2014?
Morehead welcomes new camp coordinator Jonathan Barnes, a 10-year veteran of science education programs for children at COSI (Center of Science and Industry) in Columbus, Ohio.
In 2014, all RTP-based programs will be at Research Triangle High School (replacing our former site at Kestrel Heights). Morehead will continue to offer programs at our UNC campus site and SciVentures site.
To keep our camp registration fully online, we've converted our camp release and health/safety forms to online versions. You'll receive links to these forms with your registration confirmation email -- just complete, sign and submit them electronically!
Remember, Morehead members enjoy early registration and discounts on all Summer Science Camps. If you aren't a member, you can take advantage of those discounts by buying your Morehead membership now.

Three Sites -- Choose Your Favorite!
Morehead's UNC campus site offers half-day camps for grades K-8. This is the original site for Summer Science Camps at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
Morehead's SCIVENTURES site offers full-day programs for grades 6-8. This summer, Morehead offers two different SciVentures curricula -- one on the UNC campus and one at the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence, adjacent to Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill.
Morehead's Research Triangle Park (RTP) site offers full-day camps for grades K-8. The RTP site is based at RTP High School, located near the intersection of N.C. Hwy. 54 and Davis Drive (exit 280 on I-40) .
How to Register
Morehead's online registration system offers real-time updates on camp availability and instant confirmation emails. Register in three simple steps:
- Choose your camps.
Use the master schedule (click here to download a complete chart of camps and dates, in PDF format) and camp descriptions to choose the camps that match your child's grade level and interests and your family’s summer schedule. (If you have more than one child whom you would like to register for camp, you can register them both in a single online session.)
- Reserve your camps through the online registration system.
Begin your registration process and follow the instructions within the system.
- Submit required forms online to confirm your camps.
Open the confirmation email you will receive within 30 minutes after registration (if you don't see it after 30 minutes, check your spam folder!). In that email, you'll see links to two online forms -- "Release, Contract & Consent Form" and "Health & Safety Form." You'll complete these electronic forms online (including electronic signatures, which are new this year). Complete instructions are included online with the forms. Remember, these forms will be submitted electronically -- they are not designed to be printed and mailed.
Please complete these forms promptly! Morehead reserves the right to cancel your registration if these forms are not submitted within two weeks of your registration.
Remember, if you do not complete and submit the electronic forms online, your child will not be able to attend camp.
Please note: You are not allowed to register your child for the same camp title more than once per summer.
If the camp you have chosen is already full, please consider joining the waiting list. If an opening occurs before the camp begins and you are next on the waiting list for that camp, a Morehead camp staff member will call you to ask if you want to claim that opening.
Age and Grade Levels
Morehead Summer Science Camps match age-appropriate grade levels in North Carolina public schools. For example, if your child will enter fourth grade in fall 2014, your child is eligible to attend any camp under the "Grades 4–5" listing.
You must register your child for a camp designed for the grade he or she will enter in fall 2014. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. This ensures the best possible academic and social environment for all campers.
